The Indian automotive giant Mahindra & Mahindra is launching its expansion into African markets from South Africa. Asked by Business Day about the company's choice of South Africa, Mr. Mahindra points out that SA’s automobile market is one of the largest and most dynamic in Africa and is a right-hand drive market, as is India.
The Mahindra Group is not the only Indian company with big plans for expansion into emerging markets. Dabur, Marico, P&G, Tata Motors, ONGC, IOC, and a host of others are eyeing new consumers in their respective sectors, far from their domestic markets, India Times reports. South America, Russia, China, and South Africa top the list of targeted markets. Bangladesh, Brazil, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Nepal, Nigeria, Sudan, and Pakistan complete the list.
